We are seeking a Senior Electronics Design Engineer / Senior Research Engineer to join our growing team in Coventry. This is an opportunity to take technical ownership of challenging projects from concept through to prototype and industrial implementation, influencing the future of manufacturing technology in the UK and beyond. 

What You'll Be Doing

As a senior technical specialist, you will:

  • Lead the technical delivery of complex electronics design projects.
  • Transform customer requirements into robust electronic architectures and design solutions.
  • Develop analogue and digital electronic systems, PCB designs and embedded solutions.
  • Support projects from early-stage research through to prototype development and qualification.
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and best practices.
  • Deliver verification, validation and reliability testing activities.
  • Work closely with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support the development of new technology capabilities for MTC and its industrial partners.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to developing engineers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to agreed quality, budget and timescale targets.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

You'll bring:

  • 7+ years' industrial experience in electronics design, PCB development, embedded systems, reliability engineering or manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong experience in analogue and digital circuit design.
  • PCB design expertise including layout, routing, signal integrity and EMC/EMI considerations.
  • Experience translating customer requirements into specifications, verification plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Knowledge of electronics standards, including relevant IEC and IPC standards.
  • Experience with verification, validation, qualification and reliability testing.
  • Embedded firmware development and hardware-software integration experience.
  • Experience working with prototype, pre-production and manufacturing suppliers.
  • A strong understanding of engineering assurance, compliance and technical risk management. 

Desirable Experience

We'd be particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • RF and high-frequency electronics.
  • Electronics manufacturing and SMT processes.
  • Product design and development from concept through to manufacture.
  • Aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, rail, energy or other high-reliability sectors.
  • Process engineering, continuous improvement and statistical analysis.
  • Coaching and mentoring engineers within technical teams.
