The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer - Project Engineer to join our team at the High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) in Coventry.

The HTRC is a unique collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce, bringing together world-leading expertise, cutting-edge facilities, and innovative research to advance the manufacture of turbine components for the aerospace industry. Equipped with state-of-the-art investment casting, machining, and advanced metrology technologies, the HTRC plays a critical role in developing the next generation of manufacturing solutions. 

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of manufacturing innovation, delivering engineering projects that shape the future of turbine component production.

The Role

As a Manufacturing Engineer with a Project Engineering focus, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements into robust manufacturing solutions while managing the technical delivery of projects from conception through to completion.

Working within a co-located team of design and manufacturing engineers, you will collaborate with researchers, customers, designers, and project teams to develop manufacturing methods, manage technical packages, and ensure successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing engineering projects to deliver customer requirements safely, on time, and within budget
  • Developing and maintaining manufacturing methods and technical packages
  • Applying project planning, risk management, change control, and cost management techniques
  • Supporting validation, substantiation, and compliance activities
  • Managing non-conformance and quality concerns to ensure specification compliance
  • Working closely with customers and stakeholders to optimise product designs for manufacture
  • Supporting innovation, process improvement, and capability development activities
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and research functions

About You

We are looking for a proactive, driven engineer with a passion for manufacturing excellence and innovation.

You will have:

  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent technical capability gained through experience
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing engineering and component engineering principles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in project delivery, problem solving, risk management, and change control
  • The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Research and development environments
  • Design for Manufacture (DfM)
  • Tooling, jig and fixture design
  • CAD and/or CAM systems
  • Investment casting or machining processes
  • Turbine component manufacture
  • Inspection and metrology techniques
  • Experimental planning and capability development
  • Process improvement and manufacturing innovation
  • Equipment capability and reliability improvement
