MTC Training exists to shape the future of UK manufacturing. Our vision is clear: to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours that future‑proof the sector. We translate the technical excellence of MTC’s core business into high‑impact apprenticeship and commercial training programmes that raise capability across industry.

We are now looking for an Apprenticeship Skills Coach to join our team on a maternity cover basis — someone who shares our commitment to excellence, curiosity and learner‑centred development.

About the Role

As an Apprenticeship Skills Coach, you will guide engineering and manufacturing apprentices through their learning journey, ensuring they receive the support, challenge and encouragement needed to succeed. You will help learners bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real‑world application, working closely with employers to embed meaningful workplace learning.

You will also contribute to the development of curriculum content that reflects industry practice and enhances the learner experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices.

  • Conduct regular progress reviews with apprentices and employers.

  • Provide clear, end‑to‑end guidance on skills development, EPA preparation and career progression.

  • Monitor progress against apprenticeship standards and ensure apprentices are EPA‑ready.

  • Plan and complete assessments of knowledge, skills and behaviours.

  • Use coaching approaches to help apprentices apply learning confidently in the workplace.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including off‑the‑job training and funding compliance.

  • Build strong, professional relationships with apprentices and employers.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across delivery and business development.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who embodies MTC’s values: One team together. Insatiable curiosity. Pursuit of the best. Enterprising spirit.

You will also bring:

  • A strong engineering background (mechanical, electrical, electronic or multi‑skilled).

  • Understanding of assessment methods, coaching techniques and apprenticeship standards.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse learners.

  • High levels of organisation, attention to detail and professionalism.

  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification.

  • Teaching qualification or willingness to gain one.

  • Assessor qualification (A1 / CAVA) or willingness to gain one.

Desirable:

  • Maths and English Level 2.

  • IQA qualification (V1 / L4 IQA).

  • Coaching qualification.

  • Higher‑level engineering qualification (Level 4+).

  • Experience with Smart Assessor or ProMonitor.

Safeguarding & Vetting:

Learner safety and wellbeing are central to everything we do. All shortlisted candidates will undergo safer recruitment checks, including employment history, right‑to‑work, references, qualification verification, online activity screening and an Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list check.

If you are passionate about developing future engineers and want to contribute to a forward‑thinking, high‑performing training organisation, we would love to hear from you.
