This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

The Trainer & Skills Coach role is required to manage and develop a comprehensive and innovative teaching and learning experience in a variety of practical and theoretical skills within relevant apprenticeship standards, to include Mechatronics Maintenance Technician, Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician and Engineering Maintenance Technician. The role will require you to also ensure apprentices receive support, guidance and encouragement to succeed in their apprenticeship programme.

As well as developing technical knowledge and skills you will be instrumental in developing softer skills which are embedded within apprenticeships. This will require you to provide regular constructive feedback to learners and record their impact on their own learning on a regular basis.

You will also be involved in the development of new curriculum to ensure that it is focussed on industry practice and the learner journey.

Key Activities:

  • Deliver classroom theoretical engineering training aligned with awarding body and Skills England Engineering standard guidelines
  • Mark learner work and provide feedback to provide outcomes to learners with developmental feedback to continue their development after assessment.
  • Manage classroom learner issues at the point of concern and follow escalation processes where required
  • Manage the classroom environment to ensure all spaces are compliant with MTC Training standards
  • Create learning resources to reflect your own delivery style and to ensure all learning outcomes are being effectively taught.
  • Create Scheme’s of work and lesson plans to ensure all delivery is planned effectively to maximise the time with learners in a classroom environment
  • Manage a caseload of engineering apprentices
  • Monitor the health, safety and welfare of apprentices.
  • Provide end to end information, advice and guidance on skills development, Apprenticeship Assessment and career development
  • Monitor and record progress against the Standards to ensure apprentices are developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required prior to their planned end dates
  • Conduct regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and their employers as per funding rules
  • Monitor apprentice off-the-job records
  • Complete any funding/MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning, withdrawals on a timely basis 
  • Plan and complete assessment of development competence qualifications (for learners on legacy apprentceships)
  • Plan and complete assessments of apprentice’s knowledge, skills and behaviours development, and build subsequent action plans for improvement where required
  • Use coaching methods in partnership with training centre colleagues and employers, to help apprentices develop and apply knowledge, skills and behaviours in their workplace
  • Build and maintain relationships with apprentices and their employers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration ensuring that apprentices complete their apprenticeship within the planned duration
  • Provide regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business

Knowledge: 

  • Strong background and experience of engineering
  • An understanding of assessment methods and techniques
  • An understanding of coaching methods
  • An understanding of Engineering Apprenticeship Standards
  • An understanding of apprenticeship funding rules
  • An understanding of Apprenticeship Assessment
  • An understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty
  • Experience of using e-portfolios (ideally Smart Assessor)
  • Ideally have experience of using learner management systems, such as Pro Monitor

Qualifications: 

Essential:

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willing to gain this.
  • Recognised Assessor qualification, such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.

Desirable:

  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSE's or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above.
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification, such as V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • Recognised coaching qualification
  • Higher Education qualification (level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline
  • Digital training qualifications relevant to education. For example, Microsoft Learn badges
