MTC is looking for an exceptional technology leader to join our Executive Leadership Team and help shape MTC’s direction.

We’re looking for someone who can translate technology investment into growth, productivity, resilience, and customer value, while positioning MTC as a recognised leader in applied digital innovation.

This is not a traditional technology leadership role; we're looking for a commercially minded executive who combines strategic business leadership with deep technical credibility.   You’ll be confident operating at Board level, influencing customers, government, and strategic partners, as well as still bringing the technical depth to challenge decisions across architecture, cyber security, data, AI and digital delivery.

The Role

As Chief Digital Officer, you’ll define and deliver MTC's digital strategy, ensuring digital capability accelerates organisational performance, enables business growth and supports world-leading engineering, research, training, operations, and defence-related activities.

You’ll lead Digital Services across:

• Infrastructure and Operations
• Cyber Security and Information Assurance
• Enterprise Applications
• Service Delivery
• Digital Governance and Planning
• Data, AI and Automation

You'll own the value, security, resilience, and scalability of MTC's digital estate, as well as the effectiveness of the people, suppliers, and investments that underpin it.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will help shape corporate strategy and advise the Chief Executive, Executive Team and Board on digital opportunity, risk, investment and organisational readiness. You'll also represent MTC externally as a recognised industry leader in digital transformation, cyber security, AI and applied innovation.

What You'll Deliver

You'll be accountable for:

• Enabling measurable business growth through digital capability, stronger customer propositions, and improved delivery.
• Improving organisational productivity and decision-making through process redesign, automation, data, and responsible adoption of AI.
• Maintaining a cyber-secure, compliant and resilient operating environment
• Creating a coherent, scalable enterprise architecture and simplifying MTC's technology landscape.
• Delivering reliable, customer-focused digital services with clear accountability and continuous improvement.
• Building a high-performing Digital Services function
• Enhancing applied digital innovation across manufacturing, engineering, and research.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a Technology leader and AI led digital Innovator who’s used to working in a highly regulated, security conscious industry, such as defence, Financial Services, or Pharmaceuticals. 

You'll bring:

• Significant executive leadership experience across digital, technology and business transformation.
• A proven track record of delivering measurable business growth, productivity improvement and customer value through digital transformation.
• Ownership of enterprise-scale digital strategies, investment portfolios and transformation programmes.
• Leadership experience across cyber security, infrastructure, enterprise applications, service delivery, data, AI, architecture and governance.
• Strong expertise in cyber security, resilience, risk and information assurance.
• Practical experience of AI, data and emerging technologies, moving from experimentation to governed adoption and demonstrable business value.
• The credibility to influence Boards and communicate complex opportunities and risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong commercial and financial leadership, including investment planning, supplier management, business cases and benefits realisation.

As well as your strategic and technical capability, you’ll also be a strong people leader, with the ability to lead, develop, and mentor high-performing teams and build capability in scarce and emerging skill areas.
