The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking an experienced and people‑focused Department Resource Manager to join our Technology Groups at Ansty Park, Coventry. This role plays a central part in ensuring engineering excellence by overseeing capability, resource deployment, and people development across the department. As a key leader within the organisation, you will help drive a collaborative, one‑team culture while supporting both team leaders and engineers to grow, develop, and deliver high‑quality outcomes. As described in the role definition, the Department Resource Manager “provides people leadership, oversee engineering capability and deployment in support of engineering excellence whilst driving cross team collaboration” (from the attached document).

In this position, you will be responsible for deploying capable resources to project needs efficiently, monitoring availability and capacity, and supporting improvements to resource management processes. You will ensure that team goals and individual development plans align with departmental and MTC strategic priorities, maintaining a clear link between day‑to‑day deployment and long‑term workforce planning. The role also requires maintaining an up‑to‑date skills matrix that supports the organisation’s five‑year strategic plan, as outlined in the responsibilities section of the document.

A significant part of the role involves leading performance, talent, and people management activities. This includes recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and coaching team leaders to build resilience and a growth mindset. You will champion professional development through on‑the‑job learning, in‑house programmes, and external training aligned to PDPs, ensuring that engineers have the support they need to thrive. The document highlights the need to “plan and execute development strategies to support people experience and capability growth,” which sits at the heart of this role.

You will also manage key stakeholder relationships across industrial, academic, government, and training partners, working closely with Group Resource Managers, HR Business Partners, and operational planning teams to ensure cohesive and effective resource management. This includes making informed Make vs Buy decisions to address skills or capacity gaps, as referenced in the stakeholder management section of the attached document.

Compliance and risk management form another important aspect of the role. You will identify and mitigate operational, people, and compliance risks, maintain accurate records for regulatory reporting, and ensure that the department remains up to date with relevant regulations through training and audits. Alongside this, you will promote continuous learning and engagement, enhancing the overall people experience through feedback, support, and access to development opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident leader who is passionate about developing people, shaping engineering capability, and contributing to the strategic direction of a world‑class research and innovation organisation. If you are motivated by enabling teams to perform at their best and want to play a key role in the MTC’s future, we would be delighted to hear from you.
