The Vacancy
MTC Training is a multi-award winning Independent Training Provider delivering high quality engineering apprenticeships and upskilling training courses.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead will be responsible for taking the lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety) across MTC Training. This includes ensuring compliance with statutory guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education), developing and maintaining robust safeguarding policies and procedures, and acting as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns. The DSL will champion a culture of vigilance, safety, and wellbeing for all learners and staff, and will work closely with employer partners, external agencies, and the wider safeguarding team.
Key Activities:
Strategic Leadership & Compliance
· Lead on all matters relating to safeguarding, child protection, and online safety.
· Develop, implement, and regularly review safeguarding policies and procedures in line with statutory guidance and best practice.
· Ensure all staff understand and follow safeguarding protocols, including referral processes and early help interventions.
· Maintain accurate, confidential, and secure records of safeguarding concerns, referrals, and actions.
Operational Duties
· Act as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns for staff, learners, and employer partners.
· Make referrals to local authority children’s social care and other relevant agencies as required.
· Support staff in making referrals and provide expert advice and guidance on safeguarding matters.
· Attend and contribute to child protection conferences, reviews, and multi-agency meetings.
· Monitor and support the work of safeguarding deputies, ensuring high standards are maintained.
Training & Culture
· Lead staff training and induction on safeguarding and child protection.
· Promote a culture of listening to learners and taking account of their wishes and feelings.
· Ensure ongoing professional development in safeguarding for self and team.
