We are now looking for an Advanced Research Engineer to join our Engineering Design Group, focusing on hydrogen and alternative energy systems.

The opportunity

This is an exciting, hands-on engineering role where you’ll work on next-generation energy systems, from concept through to delivery. You’ll play a key role in developing innovative solutions such as hydrogen production plants, pressurised pipework systems, and alternative fuel systems like ammonia or methanol

Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you’ll contribute to the design, analysis and delivery of complex engineering systems—helping customers bring new technologies to life.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering high-quality technical outputs to meet customer requirements, budgets and timelines
  • Designing and developing systems using CAD, 2D schematics and 3D modelling
  • Supporting and leading elements of projects, including acting as Technical Lead on smaller work packages
  • Working on front-end engineering design, including calculations and system specification
  • Designing pressurised systems and balance of plant solutions
  • Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, process engineers)
  • Supporting innovation by developing new technical capabilities and research initiatives
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and safety documentation

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience delivering hydrogen or alternative energy projects
  • Strong capability in CAD modelling, simulation and engineering drawings
  • Experience designing pressurised pipework systems and complex engineering systems
  • Understanding of system integration and safety studies (e.g. HAZOP, ATEX, DSEAR)
  • Knowledge of P&IDs, PFDs and multidisciplinary engineering documentation
  • Ability to manage projects across the full product life-cycle (TRL/MRL awareness)
  • Problem-solving mindset with a hands-on, practical approach

Desirable

  • Experience with Siemens NX or SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of modular or containerised plant design
  • Exposure to renewable technologies and alternative fuels
  • Working towards professional registration

What will make you stand out

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, evolving project environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for innovation
  • Flexibility to work across a variety of engineering challenges
